June 4: Local media present “Press for the People,” a grassroots workshop

Ready to sharpen your pitching and storytelling skills? The Seattle Globalist, Crosscut, South Seattle Emerald, International Examiner, Seattle Weekly, Seattle Channel, KCTS9, Brown Paper Tickets (Low-Power FM) and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation bring you a day of workshops aimed at just that for “Press for the People: A Grassroots Media Workshop.”

On Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in West Seattle, we will stop the presses to equip people with the tools to be strong grassroots journalists.

Editors and journalists from our publications will give insider tips and training on how to generate story ideas, identify and interview sources, navigate and pitch to local media, as well as produce multi-media photo, audio, and video stories. Participants will also be able to connect with local editors and pitch them story ideas, and take part in a Seattle Channel video storytelling booth to share their perspective on current local challenges and opportunities. The day will close with an open reception for reporters, editors, civic leaders, local residents, and friends to join in networking and a headshot photo booth. Lunch and coffee provided, and child care available upon request!
