This compelling novel centers on the life and strength of a female slave named May Bee in 1842 and the bond she forms with a white college student named Dawn from 2016. Meow, a Southern Louisiana catfish, rises as a superstar from the depth of rivers to reveal explosive secrets that force Dawn to reexamine her biases and face the brutal truths of slavery in the United States.
