Karen Treiger – My Soul is Filled with Joy – A Holocaust Story

February 27 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$8 – $10

A Seattle author reconstructs the harrowing experiences of her in-laws somehow surviving a death  camp and months in hiding. Karen Treiger, a Seattle attorney, has researched and reconstructed the amazing story of her in-laws Sam and Esther Goldberg.

Sam managed to escape the Treblinka death camp during a prisoner uprising, met his future wife, Esther, who was hiding in a nearby forest, and the two of them somehow survived in hiding until liberation. Sam was one of approximately 65 to survive Treblinka. Their harrowing story includes help from Polish citizens who risked everything to assist  the couple. Part of the book, titled My Soul Is Filled With Joy, also recounts the efforts the author made to retrace the steps of their war years and to show how we can all write a family story.
