The Seattle Globalist is a daily online publication covering Seattle’s global diversity and international connections. Our mission is to elevate diverse voices through media. We cover local-global connections in the Pacific Northwest, including news, politics, arts and culture, sports, and more.
We are hiring an intern for an 8-week summer internship reporting news and features. Academic credit and a small stipend of $800 is available. The deadline to apply is May 29, 2017.
The reporting internship is a hands-on opportunity to report stories for the Globalist, with supervision, mentorship and editing. Interns may continue to write for the Globalist, for pay, upon completion of the internship.
The reporting intern will be responsible for reporting stories assigned by the editor, as well as pitching ideas. Stories will include quick-turnaround assignments and event coverage as well as longer feature pieces. In addition to reporting and writing, the intern will take photos and/or identify creative commons images to accompany their stories.
The reporting intern will participate in weekly editorial meetings to discuss story ideas and publication schedule for the coming week.
The intern will assist in promoting Seattle Globalist stories through social media, and support some general operations of the Seattle Globalist, such as attending and documenting Globalist events and workshops.
This is an advanced reporting internship aimed at journalism students and emerging journalists who have some experience reporting and publishing work–and at students who are interested in international reporting. Applicants should familiarize themselves with SeattleGlobalist.com before applying. We are deeply committed to racial, ethnic, nationality, gender, religious, disability and other forms of diversity and seek to hire interns that reflect our diverse community.
Between 15 and 20 hours per week. Flexible start/end dates, approx. 8 weeks between June and September.
$800 stipend is available. Academic credit is available according to your institution’s guidelines.
