Dec 5, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pmfree
This compelling novel centers on the life and strength of a female slave named May Bee in 1842 and the bond she forms with a white college student named Dawn from 2016. Meow, a Southern Louisiana catfish, rises as a superstar from the depth of rivers to reveal explosive secrets that force Dawn to reexamine her biases and face the brutal truths of slavery in the United States. Despite their strange circumstances, the women develop a friendship that forever changes their lives and brings hope to both life past and present.
Ms. Collier’s writing jolts the minds of readers and invites them to see the power of female friendship between Black and white women that transcends time. Open discussion following the reading. Everyone welcome!
