Hagereseb: Seattle Neighborhood Screening
Jul 23, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
We’re very excited to announce a special neighborhood screening of Hagereseb at the SIFF Cinema Egyptian on July 23rd.
With 90s cuts in full effect, courtesy of DJ DV One, an in-depth Q&A with the cast & crew following the presentation of the film, and a program hosted by Larry Mizell of KEXP/ The Stranger and Rahwa Habte of Hidmo Seattle/Seattle Office of the Mayor, it’s an evening of local cinema not to be missed.
An Official Selection of the 2015 Seattle International Film Festival, Hagereseb (set in 1997) follows 10-year-old Abai on a quest to find fresh batteries for his Casio keyboard for one last music lesson with his older brother Sam before seeing him sent back to their native Eritrea, indefinitely.
Inspired by real-life stories of people from Yesler Terrace, Hagereseb stars Joseph Smith in his film debut, with Natty Moges supporting, and is the first major cinematic work from director Zia Mohajerjasbi, the 2009 recipient of The Stranger Genius Award in Film.
