The American Romanian Cultural Society (ARCS) is excited to announce the full lineup for the 6th Edition of The Romanian Film Festival Seattle, screening November 15-17 at SIFF Cinema Uptown. This year’s lineup offers the best of European cinema, with films that have received over 30 national and international prizes.
The 6th edition of the Romanian Film Festival, entitled “One Eye Laughing, One Eye Crying: Stories OFF the Wall”, celebrates 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall by bringing you Romanian and Eastern European cinema echoing the political, economic, and existential dilemmas that have reshaped Europe in the aftermath of the Cold War. Bounced OFF a wall that divided families, generations and nations, these stories harness the unifying power of film to create new bridges, in a universal quest for shared meaning.
The festival will kick off with a screening of Moon Hotel Kabul (2018) directed by Anca Damian. Lead actor Florin Piersic Jr. is scheduled to attend the festival as a special guest, and will participate in a Q&A following the film. Piersic also stars in the Closing Night feature, The Escape/Q.E.D (2013), directed by Andrei Gruzsnickzki, and will be participating in a second Q&A for that film to close out the festival.
The latest film from celebrated Romanian Director Corneliu Porumboiu, La Gomera/The Whistlers (2019), is making its Washington-State Premiere at the festival. This stunning crime thriller was nominated for a Palme d’Or at Cannes, and has been selected as the Romanian entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Additional special guests expected to attend include Director Mona Nicoară, Director Teodora Totoiu, Actor and Director Ion Borsh, and Film Critics Monica Filimon and Robert Horton.
