“THE MASK YOU LIVE IN A film about America’s narrow definition of masculinity for boys and young men”
Sep 21, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$15
|Pressured by media, peer groups, and even the adults in their lives, boys and young men confront messages about masculinity that encourage them to disconnect from their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify and degrade women, and resolve conflicts through violence. These gender stereotypes, interconnected with race, class, and circumstance, create a maze of identity issues boys and young men must navigate to become “real” men. Experts in neuroscience, psychology, sociology, sports, education, and media also weigh in, offering empirical evidence of the “boy crisis” and tactics for combatting America’s narrow definitions of masculinity. How can we, as a society, raise a healthier generation of boys and young men? Followed by expert panel with Dr. Laura Kastner, PhD and Jo Langford, MA. Co-presented with ParentMap. Rated: PG
Followed by a panel discussion with local experts: Dr. Laura Kastner, Ph.D., a nationally recognized expert and author on teen behavior and development, and Jo Langford, a Master’s-level therapist and sex educator for boys and their parents.
