Featured Panelists

  • Jill Dougherty was a foreign affairs correspondent for CNN for 30 years, where she reported on news developments from the State Department and traveled widely with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. For 10 years she served as CNN’s Moscow bureau chief, covering the presidencies of Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin. Dougherty also served as a CNN White House correspondent from 1991-1996.
  • Sally Lehrman is an award-winning journalist and senior director of the journalism ethics program at Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics. She leads its signature Trust Project, a consortium of top news companies that are developing transparency standards that helps the public easily assess the quality and credibility of journalism.
  • Amy S. Mitchell is director of journalism research at Pew Research Center. She is responsible for the Center’s research related to news and information, including how the public accesses, engages with and creates news, what news organizations are providing and how technology is changing all of these elements. Mitchell specializes in how technology is changing the flow of news information today and the influence of political identity on news choices.

Moderator

Sam Howe Verhovek, the author of Jet Age: The Comet, the 707, and the Race to Shrink the World, is a former national correspondent for The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. Verhovek currently teaches communications at the University of Washington and Seattle University.
